BYU Department of Family History and Genealogy and the ICAPGen (International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists) is proud to present: Becoming an Excellent Genealogist, on November 3rd & 4th, 2006, at the Harold B. Lee Library on BYU Campus. Theme for the conference is: Keynote speaker, for the event is David Rencher, AG, CG, FUGA.  He will speak on “Shifting Technologies Create a Shifting Profession,” to describe the unrelenting impact of the Information Age, on the advanced genealogist’s tools, methodology, and business model.

Featured speaker: John Phillip Colletta, who is one of America's most popular genealogical lecturers.  Entertaining, knowledgeable and experienced, he is based in Washington, DC, where he conducts workshops for the National Archives and teaches courses for the Smithsonian Institution and local universities. He also lectures nationally and is a faculty member of the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research at Samford University (Birmingham, AL) and the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (Salt Lake City).

The Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical Society Annual Fall Seminar is scheduled for October 21, 2006, in Tacoma, Washington.  Speaker for the seminar is Lloyd Bockstruck, supervisor of the J. Erik Jonsson Dallas Public Library Genealogy Section.  Bockstruck is, also, author of the weekly “Family Tree” column, in the Dallas Morning News. Bockstruck will speak on various topics, including:
  • Lesser Used Genealogical Records
  • Probate and Land records Research
  • Finding Substitutes for Birth and Death Records
  • Bridging the Atlantic: Finding Ancestral Homes of Immigrants

Lloyd Bockstruck has been with the Dallas (TX) Public Library since 1973 and currently serves as the Supervisor of the Genealogy Section. From 1969 to 1971 he served in the Missionary Journeyman Program, of the Southern Baptist Convention, with assignment to the Baptist Mission of East Africa, where he served as teacher and librarian in the Mombassa (Kenya) Baptist High School. He has been on the faculty of IGHR since 1974 and was the first recipient of the Institute’s Outstanding Alumni Award.

Hear speakers from the Daughters of the American Revolution and independent genealogical lecturers and researchers for two days at DAR’s national headquarters, in downtown Washington, D.C. The conference will concentrate on American genealogical research subjects for the Colonial period through the pre-Civil War era.

Kip Sperry and Susan Easton Black will present a Family History Seminar, November 3rd and 4th, 2006 at the Homestead Resort, 7oo North Homestead Drive, Midway, Utah.  A variety of topics will be offered.  The seminar begins at 1:00 p/m/ Friday.  Friday entertainment is at 7:00 p.m.  Saturday hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
